Poems of Possibilities: Poetry workshop
with Kaya Ortiz
Friday 17 April, 12:00 - 14:00
Big Room, Studio Take Care

To desire is to reach for what is im/possible. To write desire is to inhabit that possibility and make it real. In Poems of Possibility, join award-winning queer Filipino poet Kaya Ortiz (Past & Parallel Lives) in a poetry writing workshop to explore desire and possibility in all its forms.
In his memoir Pageboy, Elliot Page writes, “I didn’t have a crush, but I yearned to be near what was possible.” Yearning is the queerest emotion, and in this workshop we will lean into the way desire opens us up, makes us reach for a future so possible we can taste it. Together we will imagine and create parallel lives and potential futures, feeling not only the ache of want but also the joy of infinite possibility through poetry.
Suitable for all levels of experience, this generative writing workshop will guide participants through writing prompts and exercises inspired by some of Kaya’s favourite poems (including ‘Wild Geese’ by Mary Oliver). Participants will be given opportunities to share their writing with the group, and to discuss the readings together. Join us to discover poetry as a gateway of possibility, and a portal to parallel and future selves.
