Excited for Trans Book Festival but nervous to walk into a big festival without knowing many people yet? Come along to Prose Pals: a Literary Speed-Friending session with other trans and gender diverse writers! Writers, Trans Book Festival organisers, and best friends Eli Sutherland and Logan Trask will facilitate this interactive friend-making space focused on literature, writing, queer identities, activism, accessibility, progressive politics, and more. Get-to-know-you activities, cringe but in a good way.
The facilitators open the space by setting expectations and the safe container for vulnerability, openness, and earnest connection. We talk a little about ourselves and each other and how we became friends, then jump straight into an energising name-game. We discuss how vital friendships are in the writing world, especially with those who share progressive values and are willing to support and show up for each other in community. Then we shift into a facilitated, interactive friend-making space including various activities and prompts in pairs, small groups, and the entire group. Move past shame and awkwardness and leave feeling a little bolder and a few friends the richer.
